Wally Mbassi Elong

Wally Mbassi Elong is an Associate Lecturer in Sociology at the School of Social Sciences and Professions.

Dr Wally Mbassi Elong grew up in Yaoundé, Cameroon. He has a BA in Advertising from the Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC - Yaoundé, Cameroon), an MA in Media and Communications as well as a PhD in Media, Communications, and Cultural Studies from London Metropolitan University.

Wally's research and teaching interests include sports fandom studies, globalisation and the media, digital cultures, Critical Race Theory (CRT), and gender and sexuality. He leads a level 5 module in sociology (Resistance, Creativity and Joy in the Capital) that explores how social, historical and political factors have shaped the experiences of African and Caribbean people in London. He also leads a level 6 module in sociology (Gender and Sexuality) that introduces students to the key concepts and theories relating to the social construction of gender and sexuality and their application to various social sectors and issues in the UK and abroad.
