Portfolio Guide

Many of our courses require you to attend a portfolio interview as part of the admissions process. We are looking for applicants with the potential to complete the course successfully regardless of educational background.

Your portfolio may include a broad range of work, for example, sketch books, drawing in a variety of media, colour studies, photographs of 3D works, photographs and any other art and design work that is important to you. We do not need to see design ideas for your chosen discipline, i.e. furniture or jewellery designs, but any observations that show your interest in the subject will be helpful.

Interviews are informal and will normally last about fifteen minutes. You will be interviewed by a member of staff from the course and a student representative. Your portfolio will have been viewed prior to your interview and you will be asked to select a work or works that you feel are most important to you and discuss them. You will also be asked why you want to apply for the particular course. This is to ensure that your expectations match our offering.

If you would like some informal advice about your own portfolio, or you would like to arrange a talk for a school/ college group about portfolios and interviews for art and design courses please contact Michael Upton on m.upton@londonmet.ac.uk
