Short Courses

The Cass ( The Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design) has a reputation as a provider of short and part-time courses for the creative industries in London stretching back more than 100 years. Located in the City Fringe of East London, an area with the largest concentration of artists and designers in Europe, the Sir John Cass Department continues to offer an exciting range of creative courses based on the specialisms of the former Sir John Cass School of Art and the former London College of Furniture.

The Cass, from its two well-equipped buildings in the City campus of London Met, seeks to maintain the highest levels of achievement in art, media and design, and recognises the need for continual development of all its courses. The profile of this extensive range of full and part-time courses promotes flexibility of access, alternative and non-standard entry for mature students, and the acquisition of transferable and common skills across the breadth of the courses on offer.

The Department's Creative Industries Unit has built on the work of its very successful Furniture Works and Silversmithing and Jewellery Centre by extending the support it offers to both new and established artists, designers and manufacturers through the development of Metropolitan Works, a new Digital Manufacturing and Workspace Centre. This new centre is equipped with a wide range of state-of-the-art digital manufacturing technology including rapid prototyping, 5 Axis CNC machining, laser cutting and 3D scanning and will later include workspaces for recent graduates and start-up businesses as well as established designers and manufacturers.
