Overview

The International Business and Economics course gives you the opportunity to specialise in two key disciplines, providing you with a broad platform for your career choice and a range of highly transferable skills. You will gain a sound grounding in both business and economics, with a focus on international business activity. You will acquire the ability to use economic reasoning, as well as an understanding of organisational features such as the external environments of international businesses. This course will equip you with the relevant skills to understand and analyse how international businesses have contributed to globalisation and how they respond to the challenges posed by the global economy.

Course contents

Three levels, each of 120 credits

Level 1 topics include:

  • Global Business Environment
  • Global Challenges for Business, Management and Leadership
  • Mathematical & Quantitative Methods in Economics
  • Introduction to Accounting and Finance

Level 2 topics include:

  • International Business and the Global Environment
  • Economic Models and Policy
  • Business Decision-Making
  • Corporate Finance

Level 3 topics include:

  • International Business Strategy and the Global Economy
  • Business, Industry and Government
  • Strategic Management
  • Global Management, Governance and Regulation

Assessment

You are assessed via coursework assignments, presentations, exams, individual and group research projects and a final dissertation.

Careers

This course opens up a wide range of career opportunities. Graduates obtain employment in well-known international companies, global financial corporations, or public sector organisations. A sizeable proportion of graduates also progress to postgraduate study.

Entry requirements

In addition to the University's standard entry requirements, you should have 240 or more UCAS points, including at least 180 from two or more A levels (or equivalent, eg BTEC National, OCR Diploma or Advanced Diploma) in academic or Business subjects. English Language and Mathematics GCSE at grade C or above (or equivalent) are also required. These requirements may be varied in individual cases.

Accelerated study

It may be possible to enter the course at levels 2/3 if you have a relevant Foundation Degree, HND or equivalent.
