Overview

Sports and Dance Therapy will guide graduates to recognise, manage and treat injuries incurred by athletes and dancers.  Students will achieve clinical competence, subject-specific knowledge and the ability to relate it to the dance environment.  Sports and Dance Therapy is a unique course, accredited by the Society of Sports Therapists (SST), which provides a strong scientific basis from which the pathologies and management of dance and sports injuries can be understood. You will be able to diagnose, form and implement a treatment/ rehabilitative plan of a dance/sport injury or dysfunction. It differs from the current Sports Therapy courses in that it focuses on the specific demands of dance and aims to develop a distinguished understanding of treating athletes of this unique sport.

Career opportunities

This course supports a rapidly developing area of Dance Science. By combining dance and sports therapy this enables an essential intersection which allows graduates to assess, examine, and treat injuries specific to the demands of dance. Graduates will be trained to undertake a variety of roles within the dance environment. Opportunities could include: dance company therapist (in-situ or touring), injury prevention officer for dance schools/companies, and masseuse pre- and post- performance. Graduates could also set up their own clinic, specialising in dance injuries, external activities in collaboration with companies to provide screening, choreography advice, pre-habilitation and rehabilitation sessions.
