Functions of the University Health & Safety Office
Providing a comprehensive health, safety and fire safety information, advice and training service to all University staff, students and visitors.
Supporting the University in its management of health, safety and fire safety at work by providing a planning, policy development, monitoring, auditing and review service.
Assisting the University Health & Safety Committee in consultation with Trades Union and other employee representatives, to monitor the implementation of University health, safety and fire safety policies.
Co-ordinating site safety, occupational health surveillance, and first-aid arrangements for the University.
Investigating and reporting on accident/incident/occupational ill-health at work on behalf of the University.
Taking a lead role in Business Continuity and taking an active role in the Higher Education Busines Continuity Network (HEBCoN).
Leading on Campus Watch initiatives within the University and liaising closely with both the City of London and the Metropolitan Police.
Co-ordinating the University Environmental Policy across all departments and with external partners.
Working with National Sector agencies such as USHA, UCEA, ISTR, LHSG, UCSF and EAUC to ensure the development and sharing of best practice within the HE Sector.
Liaising with external health, safety and fire safety enforcement agencies, including the HSE, LFB and Local Authorities on behalf of the University.
