Packed events schedule as London Met goes green

London Metropolitan University is organising a week full of fun activities for students to raise awareness of environmental issues.

Date: 24 February 2015

From races up London Met’s 13-floor Tower Building to cinema showings with free popcorn, there’ll be lots going on as part of the University’s Green Week.

The initiative, which launches on Monday 2 March, will give students the chance to participate in activities and events aimed at raising awareness of environmental issues.

From 2 – 6 March, students will be able to take part in exciting events at The Rocket and Tower Building on Holloway Road, as well as in Calcutta House at Aldgate.

Events include free cinema screenings (with free popcorn), a Students’ Union social event with fair-trade refreshments and music, and the Tower Run, a vertical 13-floor race to raise money for Amnesty International.

Students will also have free access to the gym all week between 12.00 – 2.00pm, free bike checks and repairs to encourage safe cycling to the University, and an opportunity to visit Gillespie Park local nature reserve.

Green Week will host various challenges and competitions, including a pub quiz and treasure hunt, with great prizes up for grabs.

Rachel Ward, Sustainability Manager at London Metropolitan University, said: “Green Week is a great opportunity to learn about environmental issues whilst having fun and trying some different events.

“This year we hope to have the best Green Week yet by working closely with the Students’ Union.”
