The Cass Summer Show 2010
The Cass (The Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design) is pleased to announce their annual summer show.
WE ARE...WE WON’T
Be there. 16th - 20th June.
Over 3000 pieces of work in 2D, 3D and time-based media by over 800 talented students will be exhibited at the show making it the biggest event of its kind in London Metropolitan University history.
From 16 to 20 June, the Cass' two buildings will be transformed into an exciting exhibition space showcasing student work in a wide range of disciplines including Fine Art, Film, Jewellery, Product, Furniture, Photography, Interiors, Animation, Musical Instruments, Film, Silversmithing, Graphics, Textiles, Restoration, Music Technology and more. The show launches with a spectacular Private View on the 15th June, with 1500 guests expected to attend. The week will then include a number of special events including The Goldsmiths Awards, The Upholders Awards, The Owen Rowley Awards, The Martin Kemp prize and The University Purchase Prize which recognise the achievements of exceptional students. This year, prospective students attending the University Open event on the 15th June will get a sneak preview tour in advance of the official opening.
The publicity materials for the show were created by BA Fine Art students John Henry Newton and Clemence de La Tour du Pin, who took the unusual approach of using the school keepers Bob Dady and Ross Daniels at Central House as ‘performers’ in the photograph.
Michael Upton, Academic Leader at the Cass said, ‘Both buildings are already buzzing as students prepare their projects for the show and work with staff to get spaces ready- its shaping up to be our best yet. John and Clemence’s image hints at the paradox of a graduation show- the students have one foot ‘here’ at University and the other ‘there’ in their professional lives beyond. The Cass Summer Show celebrates that transition- and all the hard work along the way.’
