Dr Colin Meade

Lecturer: Governance and International Relations

Colin Meade was awarded a doctorate by the University of London for a thesis on socialism and nationalism in the Czech Lands in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He subsequently worked for many years as a translator, including full-time for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1994-2001. Since 2001 he has taught and led modules at both graduate and undergraduate levels on both the Law and Governance sides of the LGIR department, including International Legal Institutions (LLM), International Relations and the Legal Regulation of Conflict (MA International Relations) and The New Europe and the New International Order (MA European Studies). He has meanwhile continued to work as a translator, especially from German.

He contributed many articles and translations to the journal Labour Focus on Eastern Europe, with special emphasis on the Czech Lands. His current research focus is the impact of international communism on international relations since the Second World War and the contemporary legacy of that impact. At the same time he maintains an informed interest in many burning issues of the day, such as the significance of the revival of political Islam for world affairs.
