John Grieve Centre for Policing and Community Safety

The John Grieve Centre was created in 2003 with a vision to create a community of ideas that spans students, academics, practitioners and policy-makers. Originally located at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College, the JGC re-located to London Metropolitan University in April 2006.

Through postgraduate teaching and research, public conferences, law enforcement practitioner seminars and consultancy projects, the JGC actively contributes to the emerging academic discipline of police studies and promotes and disseminates expertise, understanding and good practice amongst practitioners.

The JGC enjoys close links with various police organisations and other agencies which not only serve to enhance mutual understanding but also directly contribute to course content for students. Alumni have gone on to work for various police forces and the Serious Organised Crime Agency.

Staff at the centre include:

Professor John Grieve - the Chair of the John Grieve Centre for Policing & Community Safety. After a 36-year career in the Metropolitan Police Service he has undertaken a number of Higher Education roles and is also a Member of the Independent Monitoring Commission for Peace in Northern Ireland. His expertise is in terrorism and race issues.

Dr Nicholas Ridley - Senior Lecturer with the John Grieve Centre. He has been a criminal intelligence analyst with the Metropolitan Police and with Europol. His expertise is in financing of terrorism and in organised crime in eastern and south Eastern Europe.
