Communications and PR Office

What we do:

The Communications and PR Office is responsible for promoting the University's image both within the University itself, and also to various external audiences. We aim to enhance and promote the reputation of the University through a variety of activities. We act as a go-between for staff and the media, offering advice to staff and training on how to deal with media enquiries. In addition we can assist with the organisation and the management of corporate events. We also offer help with corporate publications, as well as any other corporate promotional materials. Below is a more in-depth look at our responsibilities and duties.

Corporate events:
We offer help with the organisation and management of corporate events, such as professorial lectures, book launches, and opening ceremonies. Our events officer can assist with the full range of event requirements including assistance with catering, locations, design and printing of invitations, and database management, as well as help at the actual event itself. We can also help to produce promotional material and brochures. For a list of forthcoming events please visit the events pages.

Corporate publications:
Every four months we produce a full-colour news magazine: The Metropolitan, for distribution to external contacts. To submit news or to receive a copy, email news@londonmet.ac.uk. We also help to produce corporate brochures, leaflets and guides for a variety of events and other purposes. We can assist with writing and editing copy, as well as advising on design and printing. Liasing with our in-house designers or working with external agencies we can produce high quality publications for a variety of purposes.

Internal communications:
Every month we produce and publish the staff newsletter, Met Bulletin which features news from around the University. News can be submitted to Met Bulletin via email at: news@londonmet.ac.uk

Media relations:
We handle enquiries from the media including requests for expert commentators on a variety of issues, enquiries into using University buildings for film shoots, and enquiries seeking the University's response on breaking issues in higher education. We offer members of staff advice and training in handling and talking to the media. We also look to actively promote the University through the effective use of public relations and the issue of news releases highlighting University, staff and student achievements.

Press coverage:
As a University we receive a lot of coverage throughout the press, and it is one of our duties to keep informed of the stories that are being published about the University to ensure accuracy in their content. Please visit the In the News pages to see a summary of news covering London Metropolitan University.

Directory of experts:
We have access to an extensive range of experts, within the University, who are qualified to speak on a variety of issues. Many of our academics have good experience in talking to the media on a broad range of subjects from the psychology behind the behaviour of the Big Brother housemates to the impact of terrorism on tourism in Indonesia.
