The Director
London Metropolitan University has established the first Professorship in Nutrition Policy in the English-speaking world. The first holder of the post is Jack Winkler .
He established the Nutrition Policy Unit in 2007. He has been a researcher, teacher and writer on food and health for twenty five years, and served as an officer of most advocacy groups in the UK concerned with diet and public health.
For his work as Chairman of "Action and Information on Sugars" he was awarded the Derek Cooper Prize by BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards
He has held academic posts at Cranfield University, Imperial College,
University of Kent, Kings Fund,
Wissenshaftscentrum, Berlin, and the European University Institute,
Florence.
His earlier academic work was mainly in political economy. Before that he worked as an economic journalist in London, Washington, New York, Hamburg and Moscow.
A sociologist, he was educated at the London School of Economics and Stanford University.
