First meeting of the IPSE reading group

The IPSE reading group is a friendly and informal group which meets to discuss educational ideas, theories, and practice. This semester we will be reconsidering the value of some widely used concepts in educational research such as habitus, embodiment and emotions.

All faculty staff and research students interested in research on education/social justice are very welcome and encouraged to come along and join the discussion.

The first meeting will be about the use and value of Pierre Bourdieu's concept of "Habitus" in educational research.

The reading (which is attached) for this meeting is:
Will Atkinson, (2011), From Sociological Fictions to Social Fictions: Some Bourdieusian Reflections on the Concepts of "Institutional Habitus" and "Family Habitus", British Journal of Sociology of Education, 32:3, 331-347
