Architecture & Interior Design International Foundation Programme

`

This pathway has a September start date only. Classes are held at North Campus.

Mathematics (GCSE Grade C or above or equivalent) is required to be admitted for this course.

This pathway is for students who are interested in studying for a degree (where running) in:

Architecture     BA Hons
Interior Architecture     BA Hons

This is a very intensive course involving a particularly heavy workload.  In order to progress onto a BA Architecture or BA Interior Design at London Met, you will need to pass all of your modules, and satisfy Department of Architecture and Spatial Design (ASD) staff that you are ready to start a BA course.

Because of this, we require that all prospective students submit a sample of creative work in a digital format (PDF files) with your application. This should be 5 to 10 pieces of artistic work and could include pages from a sketchbook, graphic work or photography, freehand drawings, or architectural drawings. Any type of artistic work can be included and we advise you to submit a variety of media. Once we receive your sample, we will let you know if you have been accepted onto the course.  Because of this extra administration, and the fact that reduced numbers aew accepted onto this pathway, we strongly advise you to apply early in order to get a place.

"I enjoy the course as we do photography, video, drawing and model-making and learn about design cultures and visit different galleries and museums like the V & A, the National Portrait Gallery and the Whitechapel Art Gallery, to name a few." Banu Zhulumova, IFP Architecture & Interior Design student, leading to Bachelors degree in Interior Design.

Below: Students will have an opportunity to show their work.

Project: Range of Architecture / Interior Design projects with variable aim, structure and duration; student responsibility for definition, implementation and development increases as the course proceeds; projects require substantial participation from students; independent inquiry and discovery; framework allows for original thinking and development; balances practical skills built up in Techniques module.

Techniques: skill-based technical development for Architecture / Interior Design; materials usage; quality; considerations of care, appropriateness and endeavour; intrinsic formal and structural qualities of different media.

Critical & Contextual Studies: The module provides an introduction to a range of cultural and contextual practices and is diagnostic, helping students identify those areas of degree level study most appropriate to their needs, aspirations and abilities.  It is intended to prepare students for critical and theoretical work in higher education. The module is focused on asking questions, specifically questions that bear on architecture, art, design and media in the broad sense.
