Widening Participation Community Learning Team
Widening Participation to education and employment is core business at London Metropolitan University and an integrated key feature of all our work. Our commitment is evidenced through the diversity of the student profile, the substance and range of curriculum offer, the research profile and our consultancy portfolio.
The University provides core funding to support a pan institutional Widening Participation and Community Learning Team who underpin delivery of this commitment through pro-active and strategic regional, national and international partnerships and collaborations with targeted agencies and organisations. Widening Participation Community Learning Team has recently merged with the Department of Education at London Metropolitan University. To find out more about us, watch our video.
Widening participation activities
WPLC are in partnership with Aimhigher
London East Thames Gateway (LETG), Central London Aimhigher (CLAH) &
Aimhigher London North.
The WPCL team works to raise aspiration, attainment and thus improving access and progression into further & higher education.
WPCL activities are divided into two main
areas:
- Out of school learning
- Community outreach activities
The Arts Learning Partnership supports
arts-based learning opportunities learners in both of these areas.
Primarily WPCL offer the following:
- Targeted and intensive, informal learning, Schools Programmes (Saturday Club, Radio 1 week, Upward Bound, Liverpool Exchange)
- Supplementary Schools Programmes (PIER 17 & 18)
- Upward Bound Programme
- Community Outreach Programmes
- Summer University initiatives within Tower Hamlets, Hackney & Islington regions
- Student Ambassador Project (London Metropolitan University students working with young people)
