Eligibility and Application

All candidates must meet the general entry requirements (below) to access funded places, (subject to CRB and interview). Candidates for the Practitioner Pathways must also meet the additional requirements.

Places are limited and once allocated self funded places only can be offered.

Candidates on Practitioner Pathways who meet the general requirements but not the additional requirements are able to self fund on the programme (subject to CRB and interview).

All applicants on CWDC funded Practitioner Pathways must have the right to work in the UK for at least the duration of their pathway. Candidates on funded Entry Pathways must have the right to study in the UK for at least the duration of their pathway. All candidates will attend an interview and undertake a written English test; proof of all qualifications must be presented at interview.

General Entry Requirements

You must have proved you hold the below before the start of the programme, all overseas qualifications must be accompanied by Naric equivalence:

  • Degree- at least 300 credits in any subject (60 at level 6) or foundation degree in Early Years for UPP
  • GCSE Grade C or above in English Language (English studied as a foreign language is not an equivalent)
  • GCSE Grade C or above in Maths

You must be able to demonstrate that you are able to read effectively and communicate clearly and accurately in English to a standard equivalent to Level C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. You will be assessed against this at interview. There is a self test at the bottom of the CEFRL web page.

CWDC state that candidates on all Pathways must have a CRB completed by the EYPS provider at the candidates own expense.

Additional Requirements for EYPS Practitioner Pathways       

Applicants must;

  • be employed in an appropriate early years setting for at least 16 hours per week
  • be working at settings that deliver the Early Years Foundation stage to be funded

Eligible settings types meeting the above are:

  • any setting on the Early Years Register
  • nursery schools
  • independent schools
    maintained schools

Applications for EYPS can be made directly to London Metropolitan University or to one of our four partner institutions using the following application forms;

Practitioners applying for the UPP or GEP pathway should also complete the Self-Assessment form and submit this with their application;

All applications must be accompanied by copies of certificated for GCSE English, GCSE Maths and Degree/Foundation Degree. Qualifications gained overseas must be accompanied by a NARIC equivalency. Applications without these documents will not be considered. If you are submitting your application via email you should scan these documents as attachments. We will request to see your original certificates if asked to attend an interview.

Degree Top-Up

No degree? If you are a current practitioner with experience and have an early years level 3 qualification you could join a foundation degree or a similar route towards EYPS, either here at London Metropolitan University, or at one of our partner institutions;
