European Science Foundation's Exploratory Workshop: 'Access to Communication and Democratic Media Infrastructures in the Digital Environment: the impact of Convergence Digitalisation On Community Media Policy and Practice'

European Science Foundation's Exploratory Workshop on 'Access to Communication and Democratic Media Infrastructures in the Digital Environment: the impact of Convergence Digitalisation On Community Media Policy and Practice', was held at Central European University (CEU), Budapest, between 12 and 15 May 2008. The delegates a group of 30 experts from across Europe included academics, practitioners, policymakers and members of the European Commission with media policy remits.


Peter Lewis (Senior Lecturer Community Media) and Salvatore Scifo (Lecturer Community Media) were invited to contribute to the ESF.

Peter Lewis's report on the "Role of community media in promoting social cohesion" for the Council of Europe's Media Diversity Group has formed the basis for a Draft Declaration to be presented to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on 'The role of community media in promoting social cohesion and cultural diversity'.

Peter Lewis and Salvatore Scifo were consulted by Austrian MEP Karin Resetarits, a member of the European Parliament's Culture and Education Committee, in her preparation of a report to be debated in the Parliament in September.
