Media, Information and Communications is a dynamic and challenging area of study and research that is aimed at promoting understanding of the role of media and information in shaping our social world. We offer courses that develop critical awareness and practice based skills in media production, information and knowledge management practice. Emphasising innovation and open-mindedness, a stand-out feature is the pride we take in supporting students in this exciting and continually-evolving sector.

Our Courses
We offer an exciting range of degrees at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. Our courses offer research-led teaching by some of the leading international experts in media, information and communication.
All of our courses:
- Develop students’ critical understanding of global communications, digital cultures and their relationship to cultural policies and industry developments
- Provide students with professional-standard equipment, and develop industry-valued skills in a range of digital practices: including web and game design, animation, television and video production, information architecture and journalism
- Offer an industry-engaged curriculum, including opportunities for work placements as part of your accredited studies and visits to/from industry and media professionals playing a key role in students’ studies
- Equip you to manage multimedia projects and your own business.

Our Students
The diversity of students taking Media, Information and Communications courses is one of our strengths, enhancing as it does experience and range of knowledge. We encourage you to be creative in your approach to your studies, to look at things differently, and to develop a wide range of intellectual and practical skills.
Our students have gone onto successful positions in the media and creative industries in London and around the world. Recent graduates currently hold positions directing open access satellite television, coordinating sports news for a top Arab satellite TV programme, working in public relations for the United Nations, and advising government ministers on library facilities.

In a recent assessment of research excellence, media and communications at London Met ranked in the Top 24 universities in the UK. Our research was considered world leading in practice-based research, cultural studies and political communication. Nearly 60% of staff outputs in the Culture, Communications & Media 2008 RAE (Research Assessment Framework) were judged to be World Leading (4*) or Internationally Excellent (3*). The subject area hosts a number of active research groups:

Our Staff
The members of the Media, Information & Communications team are regular contributors to major journals in the field, such as Media, Culture & Society, Screen, Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television, Subject Matters, Cultural Studies and sit on the editorial board of a number of leading media and information journals, including Social Semiotics, Celebrity Studies Journal and Journal of Information Literacy
