I am pathway leader for social policy and assessment tutor for sociology and social policy. The social policy half degree is an up-to-date course that takes account of global and European changes to the social policy making process. In addition it incorprates new issue-led areas of study such as youth, drugs, crime, homelessness, and asylum. The half degree also allows a great deal of choice for students who can speicalise in education, housing, health or social exclusion. This enables students to look towards careers in a number of areas including local government, social services, education, housing (both private and public) as well as other civil service or social administrative forms of employment.

Current Teaching

As pathway leader I am involved in all the social policy modules at every level; either teaching, convening or as a second marker. I am also involved in teaching sociology and have helped develop a core first year module on Social Problems. As a generalist rather than a specialist in social and political theory I have also taught on the MA in Children and Families as well as on theoretical modules in Cultural Studies and Mass Communications.

Current Research

My background is in political philosophy and this is where I have decided to orientate my research career. In May 2004 I had my first book published and since then have published two more books, one every two years! I am currently hoping to become the series editor of a new collection of 'past masters' in social and political theory being planned by Routledge.
