Dr Michael McGuire

Dr Michael McGuire is a Senior lecturer in Criminology at London Metropolitan University. His background is in philosophy and scientific method and he obtained his doctorate from Kings College in 1999. He specialises in the application of quantitative methodologies to criminological issues and has engaged in applied research for a variety of public bodies including Tower Hamlets, The Kings Fund, Spitalfields Market Development Group and the City of London Police. 

Mike has written extensively on the relationship between communication technology and crime and his recent book Hypercrime: The New Geometry of Crime (2007) was awarded the 2008 BSC runners up Book Prize. He is currently preparing two books for publication (Technology, Crime & Control, and The Criminology of Pleasure) and is currently working on a research project exploring the connections between communication technology and organised crime for Detica.
