Crime and Community Safety
|
The crime and community safety team includes both full time researchers and lecturing staff in the Department of Applied Social Sciences. The teams members are involved in conducting contract research for a range of statutory and non statutory organisations at both a regional, national and international level. Clients have included Metropolitan Police Service, Youth Justice Board, Government Office for London, Transport for London, City of London Police, Camden Community Safety Partnership, Hackney Cleaner and Safer Partnership, Tower Hamlets Community Safety Partnership, European Commission, Guggenheim Foundation. Centre staff have also produced sole authored monographs, edited collections, journal articles and book chapters on a range of criminological issues. The subject matter veers from grounded and applied research through to political interventions designed to rethink how we think about the operation of the criminal justice system; through to theoretical texts that push the frontiers of criminological knowledge. Centre Staff also work closely with the media and have appeared on numerous television and radio commenting on topical issues, while their work has been cited in many newspaper reports on crime and community safety. Emphasising their commitment to a public criminology, Centre staff have also advised government and a range of statutory agencies on crime and community safety issues and sit on a number of advisory fora.
