Community Media Research Group of London Metropolitan University is
organising a further series of three seminars to bring together community
media practitioners to identify the needs and aspirations of London's many
disenfranchised communities and discuss a way forward that will give them a
voice over the airwaves and the internet. This is the third and last seminar in the series.

Speaker: Mark Wheeler
Darryl F. Zanuck was a truly engaged, hands-on studio chief whose involvement with movies grew out of real talent, and not merely an accident of ownership. Though he never directed a movie, as a producer and studio production chief, Zanuck contributed directly to the creative content of hundreds of films, many of them extremely important, and remained a major force in filmmaking for more than 40 years. His filmography includes 'All About Eve', 'The Day teh Earth Stood Still' and '42 Street'

Society and Justice Journal Launch
This event celebrated the lauch of the Information, Society and Justice Journal, which seeks to provide a pro-active space for critical disussion on the issues around information, society and justice.
Speakers were Fironze Manji of the Pambazuka Press, Duncan Bowie of The Chartist, Tony Bunyan, Director of Statewatch and Shiraz Durrani of the Department of Applied Social Science at DASS.

Debate and Lecture Series: The Last Slave with Paul Kerr. The story of a black Briton, David Monteith, retracing the life of his great great great great grandfather, one of the last British slaves shipped from Africa to the Caribbean and one of only a handful of British slaves who left an account of his life in servitude.

Sustainability and Communities - Roland Karthaus is a qualified architect and acts as a client for a regeneration organisation. At this event he spoke on how recent regeneration policy has tried to draw together development with popular lobby issues, such as empowering local communities and environmental sustainability which are mutually beneficial goals, helping to deliver healthy urban societies. On examining the reality of regeneration however, there is much evidence that radically challenges this view.

CASE STUDY: Aylesbury New Deal for Communities - Steve Pearce, Director of the Aylesbury NDC and of Tribal Consulting-Regeneration spoke about the past five years of the Aylesbury NDC in south London and the history of the estate and at the physical, economic and social regeneration of the estate.

A showcase of DASS's expertise and achievements in this area as well as contribute to future plans and ideas for taking this area forward.. There will be discussion groups, presentations, and videos. This topical and thought provoking event will allow us to consider what we have done, what we are working on and form a DASS wide strategy.

Making Provision for Students with Disabilities
Presenters: Geraldine Toman (Disabilities & Dyslexia Services Manager) and Carol Jones (Deputy Service Manager [Dyslexia] )
An overview of University policy, practices and services will be presented, covering matters such as procedures over disability needs assessment. We will look at both Depatmental and individual responsibilities, particularly regarding 'alternative' methods of assessment on modules.
In this American Popular Culture Series seminar, Mark Wheeler talked about 'Wilson', a biographical film about the former US President, Woodrow Wilson.
