Sports Science and Therapy

What is Sports Science?

The British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES) defines Sport and Exercise science as: “the application of scientific principles to the promotion, maintenance and enhancement of sport and exercise related behaviours.” Sports science courses are generally characterised by a wide breadth of curriculum, but physiology (including metabolism and nutrition), psychology and biomechanics are core areas.

What is Sports Therapy?

The Society of Sports Therapists defines Sports Therapy as: “an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability. It utilises the principles of sport and exercise sciences incorporating physiological and pathological processes to prepare the participant for training, competition and where applicable, work.”
