  Course News - MSc Health Psychology  
 
  • London Met is planning to start their Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology from October. This is an exciting and important development of the Health Psychology programme.

  • Students on the MSc Health Psychology programme are currently taking doing placements at the Health and Well-Being Centre.  This is a university initiative to give free health advice to staff and students about stop smoking and weight-loss. As part of this students will be delivering healthy eating advice to primary school children. All new students have the opportunity to take part!

    Research currently being carried out by the Health team includes a study on breast cancer awareness and body image in South Asian women funded by Breast Cancer Campaign. In addition we are carrying out a large survey on diabetes risk and healthy lifestyle among university students in collaboration with the dietetics team here at LondonMet.

•  Dr Esther Murray is currently working with HHS colleagues and Islington PCT on an intervention for obese and overweight teenagers called NEW Start. This involves teenagers attending twice a week for exercise and nutrition and lifestyle change education classes over a period of 10 weeks

•  Dr Anna Baker and Dr Esther Murray are developing and delivering training to frontline NHS Islington staff in order to help them develop the skills to raise behaviour change issues. This is part of NHS wide work on health promotion which seeks to improve the health of everyone in the UK by tackling behaviours such as smoking, alcohol abuse, physical activity, healthy eating, cancer screening, sexual and reproductive health and mental health and wellbeing.

Breast cancer and breast cancer screening beliefs study.

We are looking for South Asian Muslim women aged 29-50 years old to complete a brief questionnaire on breast cancer and breast cancer screening beliefs. If you are interested in taking part, please e-mail Dr Anna Baker at a.baker@londonmet.ac.uk .

All participants will receive a £5 Marks and Spencers voucher for taking part. This study is sponsored by Breast Cancer Campaign.


New Opening Hours for Resources Room and Computer labs

From week commencing 31st July, Resources Room Opening Hours will be from 9.30 to 17.00, Monday to Friday. The computer lab cm143 opening hours will be from 9.00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday. Basement labs and project rooms will only be available via bookings.
