The Department of Applied Social Sciences offers a range of qualifying and post-qualifying courses in social work.

London Metropolitan University is a vibrant place to study the subject. We've a diverse student and staff community, and we place an emphasis on the application of research and theory to social work practice. What's more, we offer a committed and innovative approach, with lectures, workshops, seminars, role plays, videos and tutorials all utilised in the learning process.

Our staff are actively engaged in scholarly activity. This includes research and training, consultancy roles with social work-based agencies, and representation on London-wide strategic bodies responsible for social work education.

We're also able to draw upon our fast-expanding service user and carer network group, which benefits all students on the programme.

Continuing Professional Development

Our short courses in Continuing Professional Development link research, policy and training provision to meet the needs of a wide range of professional staff groups. The training offered is grounded in up-to-date research, theory and practice experience. Courses include introduction to child protection, joint investigation training in child protection, training the trainers, and people skills.

These short courses include managing people, groups and teamwork, project management, performance management, policy developments and managing change. We work in partnership with public service organisations to develop bespoke training to meet specific management and leadership development needs. Drawing upon a wide range of learning methods, they attract academic credits for participants who successfully complete designated work-based assessment.
