Regeneration and Housing are dynamic and rapidly changing policy areas - high on the government's agenda - and at LMU, with major regeneration projects and housing need on our doorstep, we offer a range of exciting courses. Postgraduate CoursesMA City RegenerationIn London there are a large number of major regeneration projects taking place - Thames Gateway and the Olympics at Stratford and the wider Lower Lea Valley in the east to Kings Cross and Paddington Basin in the west of the capital - as well as a host of other regeneration initiatives across every London borough. And yet, while regeneration and sustainable communities are at the heart of Government policy for our cities - there is increasing concern that the skills are not available to deliver them. LMU - at the heart of many of these regeneration projects - can help you develop the range of skills necessary to work in regeneration. Our MA City Regeneration offers a combination of theory, policy and practical skills with 4 core modules in city theory, regeneration and economic development policy, community development and research methods - and options in sustainable communities, housing, health, project management, GIS and cultural and creative industry-led regeneration. MA Housing and InclusionMA Housing and Inclusion Housing is a major issue and nowhere more so than in London and the south east where housing affordability and access, housing growth areas and sustainable communities are key policy themes. Our new MA Housing and Inclusion is an exciting new masters programme in housing with a focus on social housing and access and inclusion issues and the links with regeneration and sustainable communities. It offers 4 core modules in Housing Law, Finance and Management; Housing and Regeneration; Advice, Empowerment and Customer Care and in Research Methods - with a wide range of options including regeneration and economic development policy, project and public sector management, community development, sustainable communities. Students can choose to specialise in Mental Health, the Elderly, Refugees or Violence against women - of special relevance to those working in a specialist or advisory field in housing or social care. The course will also equip you with the knowledge and skills appropriate to working in partnerships with many organisations and with appropriate generic skills to work on managing a wide range of housing and support activities. Course leader: Dr Christopher MacKay c.mackay@londonmet.ac.uk MSc Spatial Planning and Housing StrategyThis new MSc aims to give students a thorough understanding of spatial planning and housing strategy and the relationship between the two disciplines. The focus will be on the development of strategic plans and policy at national, regional and local authority level. The course focuses on theoretical and policy context and the technical knowledge needed to carry out spatial planning and housing strategy policy development and implementation within and in relation to the British national, regional and local governance structure. The course has a specific focus on London and the South East of England as a growth area and will also draw on the experience of other world cities. The course will focus on the relationship between land use planning and the planning of education, health, leisure, transport and utilities facilities, as the precondition for successful new communities. The focus will be on the development of strategic plans and policy at national, regional and local authority level. The course focuses on theoretical and policy context and the technical knowledge needed to carry out spatial planning and transport and social infrastructure strategy development and implementation within and in relation to the British national, regional and local governance structure. The course has a specific focus on London and the South East of England as a growth area and will also draw on the experience of other world cities. MSc Planning and Sustainable Communities Course leader: Duncan Bowie d.bowie@londonmet.ac.uk Undergraduate CoursesFdA Sustainable CommunitiesThe University has been selected as a partner by the HCA Academy (Homes and Communities Agency) to develop the first Foundation Degree in Sustainable Communities in London. This course has been designed to respond to the government’s aim to train people to develop and deliver sustainable communities and it will include the study of housing, community regeneration and sustainable development. There will also be an emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach and generic skills. It will help to develop the skills that are needed to have a positive impact on communities, including partnership working, community consultation and governance. The course is aimed at providing an educational opportunity for a wide range of people such as those seeking careers in occupations like housing and planning; experienced professionals who want to further their studies and gain a recognised qualification and people working in the voluntary sector or community activists keen to progress into potential careers and benefit their local neighbourhoods.
