London Met's Department of Applied Social Sciences is an exciting multidisciplinary department. It has over 100 full time academic staff, and offers over 40 high quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a wide range of subjects. They are grouped into seven areas:

Our aim is to provide high quality teaching and a supportive learning environment, informed by research, changing employment markets and student demand. We're committed to evaluating course offerings, and have an impressive record in curriculum innovation and course design.

The department has a strong research profile, with five professors, four readers, four research centres, and strong links with three university-wide research institutes.

As the name of the department suggests, one of its key strengths is its link with employers in the public, private and voluntary sectors, and professional bodies. We also have well-established links with all departments across the university.

The department attracts over half a million pounds per annum in external funding. This comes from a range of sources, and includes the Economic and Social Research Council, the European Union, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, central and local government departments, health trusts and NHS education confederations.

We have international collaborative links focused on European social policy and urban regeneration. For example, our MA Comparative Social Studies Course sees staff working alongside colleagues from 17 European higher education institutions.

We're committed to building our international links and developing new teaching programmes at all levels. We're also dedicated to building our external research profile, to allow us to promote the skills base and opportunities among the diverse communities that are attracted to the department.
