December SEW Poster

SEW Number 3: 9 December 2009
Session 1: How to build an IT career in the Financial Industry
Session 2: Cisco Networking Academy Evolution and Meeting Current Market Demands

The 3rd SEW was once again well attended, with 50 plus students, employers, ex-students and staff.

First presenter was Michael Beaver, the Head of Finance at BATS Europe, who is also a Pre-Masters part time student, spoke about “An IT Career in the Financial Services Industry”. He gave students some practical tips and case studies of how students should prepare themselves for possible IT jobs in the highly competitive, but highly rewarding, industry.

Shahram Salekzamankhani introduced the two speakers from Cisco: firstly, Jaskaran Kals (pictured), the Technical Manager from Cisco Networking Academy. He gave an insight into the current structure of the Cisco curriculum and demonstrated how it is aligning to meet the current demands.

Third speaker Sedef Buyukataman is the University Relations HR Manager for Cisco Europe. Sedef gave a fascinating presentation on Cisco’s recruitment process, how to increase the chances of success in the highly competitive job market and how to increase students’ employability.

Finally all three speakers were invited back to the stage and answered questions from the floor. The evening closed by Yanguo thanking to the speakers and an announcement for the next SEW event in January. It’s worth noting that once again many of the students stayed for half an hour chatting to the three speakers after the end of event. The feedback from students was very positive
