Intelligent Systems Research Centre
Overview
The intelligent systems research group was formed in academic year 1999/2000. In the academic year 2001/2002 the Intelligent Systems Group obtained the Centre status, 'Intelligent Systems Research Centre'. The Intelligent Systems Research Centre has been established to promote research into the theoretical analysis and practical applications of intelligent and adaptive systems; these include fuzzy logic, neural networks, genetic algorithms and AI techniques. Some examples of the Centre's research activities are outlined below:
- Applications of soft computing to bioinformatics. Use of soft computing to predict and analyse transmembrane regions and signal peptides in protein sequences.
- Applications of soft computing to wireless/wired networks, IT and information security, video streaming & distribution, location-based service, and mobile computing.
- Data-mining, virtual learning environments (VLE), pattern recognition, natural language processing, cognitive science, biometrics and GIS database performance, parallel distributed systems, and agent based approach for building data warehousing.
- Advanced web technology and its applications (i.e. e-commerce, CMS, semantic web, and web services).
