Studio 6: Lifesaver

Studio philosophy

Socially Responsive Design

A multi-disciplinary studio, with the goal of using the power of visual communication to better the community and environment. Working across the fields of illustration, graphic design, interior, installation, environment design and wall painting

We believe in 'Learning by Doing'. Every project is different and we embark on new challenges with excitement, an adventurous mind and observant senses.

You will learn how to initiate projects, to carry out a design process, to set and control budgets. You will execute the promotion and marketing, work in a team and see the whole project through from beginning to end, just as we run professional projects in our own studio.

About us

The Gilles and Cecilie Studio was founded in 2006. We operate from our studio in London, or on location all around the world wherever work, new challenges or new connections take us.

We are creative practitioners, providing ideas, concepts and visuals across media both commissioned directly from clients or in collaboration with other creatives. We are a small core team, with a surrounding international creative network of collaborators. We deliver tailored, focused work for our clients' specific needs. Through our commitment to design, graphic, illustration, and image making for an international market, we strive to make design accessible to the public, share process and work collaboratively. We provide design services and consultancy in the fields of illustration, fashion, apparel, interior accessories, architecture, interiors and public spaces.

Projects

1 REGENERATION AND SOCIAL INTERACTION
You will combine illustration and event to create something that can involve people in the local community to use the skills within the school to improve the surroundings. How can we change the environment in the local community using illustration and graphic design to regenerate a space or local neighbourhood?

2 INSTALLATION AS AN ATTRACTION
Create an installation (permanent or non-permanent) in a private or public building that the viewer can interact with. The installation will be the attraction. You will create a visual identity for the installation, promo and invitations.

3. WALL PAINTING AS A LANDMARK
Find a location within urban space where a colourful large scale painting can be a new landmark. Investigate why images are easier to remember than text.

This is a research and development project where we would like to develop a system as a group to find a new way of making wonderful wall painting created by modular illustrative units. It’s about curiosity. It’s about re-thinking compositions, shapes, graphics and colours.
