Studio 3D 04: All the Ingredients

Studio brief

In its simplest interpretation, All the Ingredients may conjure up a range of connected or disparate elements that combine to create your favourite dish, or suggest processes and methods that transform these component parts into something new. An individual ingredient is a particular constituent, an essential characteristic or a quality needed to achieve something, a distinction that only you may bring. Together All the Ingredients begin to suggest something alchemic – speculative and experimental.

The studio offers you the opportunity to make new works, creating a context for you to originate, explore and interpret ideas, to develop a language that is imbued with your personal voice; communicates and has the capacity to gather meaning through time.

With a broad sensory capacity for interrogating both the natural and the man-made world, we will focus not only on the designing and making of jewellery and silversmithing artefacts, but also on producing human experiences. You will learn to embrace how people read and interact with what you produce and investigate how these things function within social, economic and environmental contexts.

Studio structure

The studio encourages you to draw on your own ideas and experiences to discover the forms, materials and techniques you need to develop and express your personal voice. It will support you through the stages of research, design development, testing, making and presentation, exploring ideas using your imagination, necessarily drawing on the contemporary world. A series of projects working towards developing an independent brief, will help you consolidate your own design philosophy and explore established and emerging platforms of dissemination.

The studio acknowledges both your individual spirit and the essential workplace attributes of successful cooperation and collaboration. Harnessing your gut instincts and creative impulses, live projects will support you to imagine, design and make or get made, across a spectrum from the bespoke to multiple production and at different physical scales.
