Studio 1: Prospéct

Studio brief

Leading on from last year's Harvest Studio, the themes are similar with a series of projects that are not necessarily related but have an attitude of making the best out of the situation that life has dumped on you.

We believe that well thought through designs are inspired and can emerge from unlikely places at unlikely times. But you have to find them. You have to go and look for them. You have to prospect in the world you have found yourself living in, inside your imagination and also physically with your hands to see what the soil will turn up. It's hard work. But there is gold to be found.

Where do you look for inspiration? Where do you look for ideas that might inform a design? Is flicking through a copy of Wallpaper at someone else's ideas really wise? Have you been to a farm recently? The gym? A bus repair centre? Maybe these might be more fruitful than wishing you could design the next shiny kitchen.

We aim to have two major live projects run in the year, punctuated by very experimental short one-day briefs. We will visit studios and workshops of designers and makers who can give an idea of how to survive scrabbling around in the dirt.

You will be physically broken by the end of the year. But hopefully, richer.
