Studio brief
The in, the on and the under... Gaining an understanding of the properties and potential of surface...
‘What do I want’ forms the ethos. Work germinates within textile disciplines of weave, print, knit and stitch but will be further interrogated through experimentation and investigation into self-determined materials and media.
Creative practice and innovation are denoted by a fluency in material properties, and based upon a visual literacy in a range of appropriate and inappropriate substrates.
Underpinning the technical gestures learnt during this studio is the development of a textile identity which surpasses media limitations and looks to innovation and contextual understanding.
Projects will be industry led, with competitions and design initiatives forming the basis of starting points; rigorous questioning and an enquiring approach will ensure outcomes do not remain within the technique-led identity.
