Objectives

To undertake research into:

Body composition and obesity assessment in children and adults with the aim of better defining the metabolic ‘at risk’ phenotype and novel assessment tools

Dietary assessment methodology development with a specific focus upon migrant population groups to help reduce health inequalities

Infant weaning practices with the aim to reduce mortality and improve nutritional status in vulnerable population groups

How food microbiology impacts upon optimum health and wellbeing especially gastrointestinal health, food spoilage and food safety.

PHNRG is dedicated to training researchers to PhD level and provide the opportunity for postdoctoral researchers. Where possible we welcome visiting researchers and internships are considered. Our research informs our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes and several of our graduates have gone on to have successful research careers and lectureships.
