Luminescent Sensor Molecules

This work involves the understanding of photoluminescent compounds with applications towards bio-imaging and nano-architectures/materials. Emissive metals can be used to provide reliable information about changes in environment, such as shape or pH. Using transition metal ions and lanthanides ions as a spectroscopic handle offers a vast range of colours and lifetimes that can be exploited to obtain detailed information. Protection of such systems using nano-architectures compliments this approach, lending a new robustness, and greater flexibility, which will hopefully prove effective in broadening the field.
