The CASS Textiles Summer Show features the creative output of four Design Studios (years 2 and 3), alongside first year practice:
Think Personal, Make Public
Work shown reflects the specialist teaching in weave, knit, stitch and print, developing design outcomes for fashion, interiors and products. Students are taught by a team of professional practitioners and designers, working across all sectors of the textile industry.
This year, Textile students at all levels have participated in live projects and competitions, producing award winning work and winning critical acclaim from industry professionals.
Live projects set by Lyle & Scott Knitwear, Gainsborough Silk Weavers, The London Embroidery Studio, Parker Knoll, Aston Martin and Adidas sportswear have produced exciting and innovative fabrics that have secured student work placements and seen their fabrics put into production.
Year 1 students also started the course with a fast paced live project, working with Jewellery students to make costumes for the Lord Mayor’s London Parade, seen by thousands as it made its way through the streets of the City of London.
A busy year has given students the opportunity to explore for a wide range of activities and experiences, with portfolio reviews from alumni; invited speakers from across the design world, and even mud larking on the shores of the Thames. Trips have been organised to galleries and trade shows in London, Brighton, Paris and Florence, as well as industry visits to studios, mills and printers.
Graduates include finalists in international competitions for furnishing fabrics for Ikea furniture, designs for Portmeirion Tableware, as well as winners in the Warner Textile Archive Challenge.
