About the Course
The MA by Project is a distinctive research based masters course. A self selected project is the focus of the course. Projects are proposed by the student, and the course offers the widest range of opportunities to pursue an area of particular interest. The field of inquiry is proposed from the beginning and taken through the whole course. This can be practice or theory driven. The project is developed in relation to the norms and protocols of research, and is engaged with the debates about the nature of research, particularly practice-based research. The course may lead to either professional development, or further research in the chosen area of the student project.
The course is committed to the value of a clear and rigorous research framework in the pursuit of the project aims. Theory and practice are not conceived as distinct, but intricately interrelated, and the honing of method is important for success. The course is structured so as to develop multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary debates and methods.
Research projects can be in any subject or combination of subjects supported within The Cass School of Art Architecture and Design, including innovative subject areas and collaborative projects.
