Photography competition – winners announced

Winners announced for London Met's national photography competition 2021 for school and college students.

Your People, Your Places, Your Things

The photography team at the School of Art, Architecture and Design revealed the winners of their Your People, Your People Your Things competition at an online celebration event on 6 May. The winners in each category were Tilly Reed from New College in Doncaster, whose still-life entry won the Your Things category; Courtney Blackman from Farnborough Sixth Form College, whose portrait won the Your People category and Alexander Phocas from Godalming College, whose landscape image not only won the Your Places category but was revealed as the overall winner of the competition.

The competition was open to students of photography and visual arts subjects aged 16 or over and in full-time further education at schools or colleges in the United Kingdom. Students were asked to submit their favourite portrait, landscape and still life photographs. The 24 shortlisted images are included in an online exhibition hosted by the School of Art, Architecture and Design here and will also feature in a competition section of a printed magazine being made by second year Photography BA (Hons) students. C-Type digital prints will be produced for the 12 finalists courtesy of sponsor Metro Imaging. The overall winner will also enjoy a one-day shoot in the school’s industry-standard studio in Aldgate, London. Due to the high overall quality of submissions, images by Highly Commended students will also feature on the photography website.

The organisers would like to thank and congratulate the 24 finalists as well as those students whose work has been highly commended and will be shown on our Photography BA website. However, we also wish to thank all the students who submitted the many wonderful entries from around the country. All the judges commented on the quality of images, how hard it was to make decisions and how much they enjoyed seeing the work from the 260 entries we received. The school would also like to thank Metro Imaging for supporting the competition and providing the 12 shortlisted finalists with a C-Type digital print of their work. Thanks also to the students, alumni and staff for their time and diligence in judging the competition.
