Martin Saville

Martin is the co-founder of Mayvin, a specialist consultancy that seeks to release the human spirit in organisations. A former director of Strategic Planning and Operations at London Business School, he combines a strong professional background in senior management with specific expertise in leadership development, group dynamics and organisational development (OD).

Much of Martin’s work is around organisational values, relationships and culture, and helping to ensure that these support his client organisations’ strategy and core purpose. As a consultant, he seeks simultaneously to help people be more human at work and to support organisations to be more effective, impactful and successful.

Martin is part of Mayvin’s current research project into twenty-first century leaderships, and his consultancy work also involves helping organisations and teams to develop their leadership capabilities. He works with individual leaders, enabling them to become more resilient, impactful and emotionally intelligent. He is also certified as a somatic coach (a somatic coach works through the physical body to help people develop their leadership presence, enabling them to operate skilfully under pressure, take powerful actions, inspire others and ultimately to create the future they want for themselves and their organisation).

He is also known and respected for the work he does in developing the knowledge and capabilities of OD teams and practitioners. As well as supporting in-house OD teams, Martin is a number of leading OD practitioner development programmes, including the CIPD’s Certificate in the Psychology of OD and Roffey Park’s OD Practitioner Programme, of which he was programme director for several years. He is also a regular conference speaker on OD and is co-editing an OD field guide to be published by Gower in 2013.

Martin has consulted to organisations in a wide variety of sectors, ranging from finance and industry to health, the arts, local and central government, higher education and non-profits. Current and recent clients include Orange, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust, Ministry of Justice, Bristol University and Blue Cross. An experienced facilitator, he has worked with top teams and boards, facilitating learning sets, developing strategy and building team effectiveness. He is also well versed in designing and delivering Large Group Interventions.

Martin works as an associate for London Business School, CIPD and Roffey Park Institute. His somatic coach certification is from Strozzi Institute. He has a degree in classics from Oxford University and an MBA from London Business School, as well as a foundation certificate in psychotherapy and counselling from Regent’s College.

Martin’s early career was spent in opera management. He was general manager of British Youth Opera, the UK’s opera training company, and also worked at San Francisco Opera.

He then spent eight years at London Business School before joining Roffey Park Institute as a senior consultant in 2005. He set up Mayvin with James Traeger and Tony Fraser in 2011.

Martin maintains his connection to the world of opera as deputy chairman of British Youth Opera and enjoys flying light aeroplanes.
