Christopher Emmett

After completing an MA in History of Fine Art, Christopher lived in Japan for 10 years, an experience that has shaped much of his thinking and approach to design. Retraining as a cabinetmaker on his return, he has since pursued a career in furniture design and craft seeking to find a successful integration of functional efficiency, traditional craft approaches and modern manufacturing possibilities. His design avoids the decorative, looking for beauty through form and careful selection of materials.

He joined the University in 2002 and continues his private practice, recently achieving a prestigious Livery Guildmark for the table shown here.
