From 2015 to 2022 Chi was the Head of Foundation at the School of Art, Architecture and Design. She's previously taught in undergraduate and postgraduate architecture at London Met for over 20 years. And she also collaborated with City University teaching the first year of the Engineering with Architecture degree course. Previously, she combined practice as a designer/maker in London with teaching on the undergraduate Wood, Metal, Plastics and Ceramics course at Brighton Polytechnic.

Chi has an MA in Design Futures from Goldsmiths College, a BA in Furniture and Related Products from Kingston Polytechnic and a Foundation Certificate from Wimbledon School of Art; like many she found the Foundation year one of the most enjoyable and influential periods of study.

Her research explores the Pedagogy of Diversity and Creative Practice.
