London Met’s summer schools are in full swing after opening its doors to students from across the city.

The teens sampled some of the very best that London Met has to offer as part of this year’s first week-long summer school at its Holloway Road site. And this is just the start with more students attending the schools at the University’s Aldgate and Moorgate sites from Monday 21 July to sample university life.

The idea behind the schools is for year 12 students to receive an unprecedented insight into what it’s like being an undergraduate at university – as well as learning more about their particular areas of interest.

The first week saw students get stuck into everything from writing, editing and laying out a short newspaper in the journalism department to designing and building a robot in engineering and exploring the social problems relating to homelessness over in sociology and social policy.

The second summer schools are based in the Faculty of Business and Law and the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design.

And it was all for free as part of the University's commitment to transforming lives through education.

Liz Routhorn, Senior Schools, Colleges and Widening Participation Officer, said: “The sessions throughout the week give the year 12 students the chance to experience life as a first-year student. They attend lectures, seminars and workshops.

“They also receive tips on their UCAS application – so that bit’s incredibly helpful for them as they're thinking about what to do next and whether to go into higher education. And it’s a lot of fun too.”
