Race, Intersectionality and Black British Identity

Why study this module?

During this module you’ll explore the concept of identity, race and racism in the UK by building upon an understanding of British history and colonisation. This module draws from a wide range of theories, academic work and case studies to paint a rich picture of the UK context.

Throughout this module you’ll cover key topics such as Black British feminism and how this has been influenced by US and African scholars. We’ll also consider the unique British conceptualisation of class and how working-class communities have been the site of both racial tensions and activism.

All of our summer school modules are worth 15 UK credit points / 3 US credit points / 7.5 ECTS, and upon successful completion we will provide you with a transcript of records.
