The Business of Fashion

Why study this module? 

London is synonymous with fashion and is home to some of the world’s leading fashion and luxury brands. During this module you’ll find out about the apparel industry, how the business of fashion works, and explore topical aspects such as the retail brandscape, digital retailing, fashion production, ethical fashion, marketing and promotion.  

You’ll have lots of opportunities to explore the City, its fashion houses and develop creative portfolio-based assignments bringing together your learning and London experiences. 

All of our summer school modules are worth 15 UK credit points / 3 US credit points, and upon successful completion we will provide you with a transcript of records.

Entry requirements

You can apply for a place on our summer school if you are currently studying an undergraduate degree with another university. You should be in good academic standing, with a Grade Point Average of 2.7 or higher or a minimum C grade average or higher (for non-GPA grading systems). If you are a non-native speaker of English you should have an English language certificate, such as IELTS 4.5, confirming a level of B1 under the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

More about this module

This module will raise your awareness of: 

  • the fabrication of fashion products 
  • the role of promotional strategies 
  • research on consumer typologies and taste communities 
  • viable strategies which identify the strength and weaknesses in a retail offer 
Teaching and assessment

You will be assessed on two different components: 

  • you will need to demonstrate your understanding of taste communities through research and development of a series of consumer typologies 
  • you will need to produce a diagnostic portfolio for two or more brands which will outline the commercial appeals 

All students will have the chance to interact with each other and to learn from other members of the group. 

Module fees

The cost of this module is £1,400.

If you would like to take two summer school modules, the total cost of your tuition fees would be £2,650. 

If you want to take this module alongside our Internship module, the total cost of your tuition fees would be £3,500.
