All of our courses have different requirements, so the best place to start is checking the entry requirements on our course pages.
You’ll need to make sure you have the right qualifications before you apply, or that you have enough time to gain the essential qualifications (such as GCSEs) before starting the course. If you need to take an essential exam, you may be made a conditional offer where you can only start the course if you’ve completed and passed the relevant qualification.
Top things to note when checking if you’re eligible to study one of our teaching courses
- Make sure you have the right qualifications – read the entry requirements thoroughly on the course page before applying. You'll need to supply original certificates, which can take some time to replace if you no longer have, so it's important to get these sorted as soon as possible.
- If your qualifications are from overseas, make sure they’re equivalent - check with the UK ENIC to see if you’ll need to obtain certificates of equivalency.
- Find out if you’ll need to take a GCSE equivalency test. We can tell you more about these at your interview as our main provider only works with offer-holders, so you should apply first and take the test later on.
- If you’ll be eligible for student finance or a bursary. Although funding is assessed during the application, we’d recommend starting your research early to avoid any surprises. If you’re wanting to apply for an apprenticeship, you’d need to be eligible for Student Funding.
- Your fitness to teach. Schools have a responsibility to ensure that trainees have the health and physical capacity to teach. You’ll be asked to complete a fitness questionnaire before starting the course that will be reviewed by occupational health. You should disclose any disabilities that may have implications on your fitness to teach – please rest assured that our assessment will take into account any reasonable adjustments that can be made.
