Why study this course?

This course is aimed at professional marketers in operational, supervisory or managerial positions, who are looking to develop their strategic marketing management competencies. Equivalent to an undergraduate degree, this course allows you to build on knowledge gained from the Certificate in Professional Marketing qualification.

This is a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) professional marketing qualification. CIM are the largest recognised marketing institution worldwide and are key influencers of industry standards, training and accreditation within the marketing profession.

This Diploma in Professional Marketing enables you to take a strategic approach to marketing planning, integrating digital strategy, marketing metrics, models, frameworks and techniques that will help your business gain a competitive advantage. The course teaches new marketing tactics and practices, helping you to stay innovative in an ever-changing market.

This course is suitable for marketing and communications managers, functional managers, public relations managers, product or brand managers, account managers, marketing and communications executives and business development managers.

We offer this qualification as a modular programme with entry in January, April and September each year. Each module is taught over a period of 10 weeks on one evening per week between 6pm and 9pm.

You’ll need to successfully complete two mandatory modules and one elective module to gain the Diploma in Professional Marketing.

Alternatively you can study for one module at a time to qualify for an accredited CIM award and build up to a full qualification when it’s best for you.

Assessment

The CIM assesses each Level 6 module either by examination or assignment at an organisation of your choice. There are three assessment periods each year in December, April and June/July.

Assessments are only available in English.

In order to gain the Diploma in Professional Marketing, you must successfully achieve passes at the appropriate level for two mandatory modules and one elective module.

There are some exemptions, which are available for individuals who have passed a relevant subject in an equivalent qualification. Please note, this must be at the same or a higher level and evidence of sufficient content match will be required.

Applications for exemptions are made on an individual basis, with further guidance available on the CIM website. The CIM will automatically arrange exemptions from previous CIM awards, where relevant, for individuals who are part way through the Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing. Please contact CIM directly to investigate this option.

Entry requirements

Our Diploma in Professional Marketing is a professional Level 6 qualification, which is equivalent to an undergraduate degree.

You’ll need one or more of the following to gain entry onto this course:

  • a CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing or any relevant Level 4 qualification
  • a foundation degree in business with marketing
  • a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a recognised university with at least a third of credits from marketing content (i.e. 120 credits in bachelor’s degrees or 60 credits in master’s degrees)
  • professional practice such as two years of marketing experience in an operational role

Diagnostic test

CIM has developed an online diagnostic test that considers your skills, experience and education to help determine which CIM qualification is right for you.

For entry onto this level, you'll be asked to complete the online diagnostic assessment and then forward your results to professionalcourses@londonmet.ac.uk.

If English is not your first language, you’ll need to demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following English Language qualifications in the last two years:

  • IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 (each component pass mark must be 6.0 or above)
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English at a grade B or above

CIM will consider other equivalent alternatives.

Modular structure

In order to achieve the Diploma in Professional Marketing, you’ll need to successfully complete two mandatory modules and one elective module.

After the course

On successful completion of the course, you’ll gain a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing.

You'll also receive associate graded membership at CIM and designatory letters to match based on your experience and qualifications.

Additional costs

Costs to Chartered Institute of Marketing (payable to CIM)

 

  • CIM affiliate (studying) membership = £65 (payable to CIM directly).
  • CIM assessment fees – diploma level = £560/qualification (for three modules) or £190 per module if you choose to pay for each assessment separately.
