If you enjoy drawing and love illustrated packaging, this one-day workshop will be the ideal course for you. We'll begin with initial ideas and drawing, then you'll learn how to hone and develop these into a design concept for packaging.

By the end of the course, you will learn to:
  • identify key practitioners and projects in contemporary illustrated packaging
  • gain an overview of the briefing process
  • create a series of experimental drawing in response to a given topic
  • learn to edit your experimental drawings
  • create a pattern to fit a template for packaging
  • construct a mock up example of tea packaging

Who's this course for?

The course is suitable for beginners with an interest in illustration and design and for aspiring illustrators. It is also suitable for more experienced illustrators and visual artists wanting to try something new.

Course structure

11.30 to 12 noon Presentation of illustrated packaging and explanation of how it is commissioned
12 to 1pm Playful and experimental drawing exercises
1pm to 2.30pm Reflecting on drawings and select most successful to develop
2.30 to 3.30pm Developing your pattern using a light box so it fits into a template for tea packaging using choice of different media including watercolours, pen and ink, collage and felt tip pen
4.30 to 5.30pm Construction of your mock-up tea packaging box
