Ms Rosemary Benson

Rosemary Benson was appointed as a staff governor in October 2018 and re-elected in 2021 and is a member of the Board of Governors. She is currently a member of the Audit and Risk Committee and Governance Committee. Prior to that, she was a member of the Finance and Resouces Committee for 2 years and following that she was a member of the Governance Committee for three years. Rosemary has worked at the University for nearly 20 years in a number of people development roles and is currently Principal Professional Development Manager in the Human Resources Directorate and spent her early HE career in residential, catering, conference and facilities services at a number of universities. Rosemary plays an active part in supporting and progressing equity and inclusion at London Met and is a member of the Athena Swan management team that worked on achieving the Bronze award in 2021, is the Women's Network Lead, is part of the Race Equality Charter Management Team, and is a member of the AdvanceHE group of Race Equality Charter assessors.

Rosemary is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development, MCIPD, the professional body for human resources and people development. Away from the University, Rosemary is Chair of Governors at Rathfern Primary School, a maintained school in south-east London. Rathfern Primary is an outstanding school and during her tenure as Chair the school has achieved several external marks of recognition including:

  • UNICEF Sustainable Development Goals, Rights Respecting Gold award
  • The NFER Research Mark – going beyond
  • Chartered College of Teaching Research Hub
