Frances Trought is the author of Brilliant Employability Skills (2017) and has 18 years’ experience in Higher Education with a primary focus on bridging the gap between education and industry. She is the founder of Everything D&I (2018) and works to create opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. She is a strong advocate of the diversity and inclusion agenda and encourages students to adopt a wider lens when choosing a career. To this end she partners with FTSE100 companies to provide students with the opportunity to explore the vast range of careers available and create a sense of belonging. Frances is the driving force behind the I Accelerator innovative work experience scheme, which was first piloted with Microsoft in 2019. As a result of the programme, students work on a live project brief and learn about the vast opportunities (which exist within Microsoft beyond technical roles), as well as building a network of Microsoft professionals.
In 2020 Frances launched the Bridging the Gap series, which brings educators and careers professional together with thought leaders in industry. The first in the series focused on the tech industry bringing experts from Microsoft, Shell UK, Sumo Logic and Amadeus, together with educators and careers professionals, sharing insights to their recruitment processes and future skills required in the industry.
Frances volunteers as a London Enterprise Advisor to Mayfield School in Dagenham. She sits on the Board of Directors for Film London. She is the author of the forthcoming book, Dare to Be Bold: Own Your Space, which will be released in autumn 2020.
