Java
Some features in WebLearn require your browser to be configured to use a supported Java plugin.
The Java plug-ins are part of the Sun Microsystems™ Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installation packages, which can be downloaded from http://www.java.com.
WebLearn supports the following JRE versions:
- Sun 1.4.2 (1.4.2_06 minimum)
- Sun 1.4.3
- Sun 1.5.x (excluding 1.5.0_02)
- Sun 1.6.x
- IBM 1.4.x
- Apple 1.3.x
- Apple 1.4.x
If you are using a University computer that does not pass WebLearn's browser check test for Java please contact the Service Desk and log a new call/incident:
If you are outside of the University and would like to download and install a supported version of Java please visit the Sun Java website.
If you are using a non-University computer there are instructions on the Blackboard website for dealing with an incompatible version of Sun JRE or having multiple versions of Sun JREs installed.

Java Security Certificate Issue
If you see the message below when trying to login to WebLearn you must check the 'Always trust content from this publisher' box and click 'Run'. If you do not features of WebLearn that use Java will not work.
Browse for Files button not responding when trying to Add File(s)
If the Browse for Files windows is not displayed when clicking on the Browse for Files button it is recommended you clear your computer's Java cache. You will also require a supported version of Java to be installed and unsupported versions uninstalled.
Trying to upload files and seeing the red cross instead of the My Comptuer icon
If the My Computer icon is not displayed you have either chosen not to run the Java application by not accepting the certificate when you logged into WebLearn or you do not have a supported version of Java installed or have unsupported versions installed that need to be removed.
HTML Editor
The HTML editor in WebLearn uses Java and will not be available if a supported version of Java is not installed.
How to clear the Java cache on your computer
If you have a supported version of Java installed and are still having problems accessing features of WebLearn that use Java it is recommended you clear the Java cache on your computer.
How to do so varies slightly depending on which version of Java you have installed. Listed below are two methods for two different versions of Java:
Clearing the Java cache (Java 6.0.7):

From the Start menu choose Control Panel

Make sure the next screen is on Classic View (you can see icons not categories)
- Double click on the Java icon
- In the Java Control Panel choose Settings from the Temporary Internet Files section
- Choose Delete Files
- From the Delete Temporary files window that the two boxes are ticked
- Click OK
- Click OK again
- Click OK to close the Java Control Panel
- Close your browser
- Open the browser
- Login to WebLearn
- View instructional video (24 seconds)
Clearing the Java cache (Java 5.0.7):

From the Start menu choose Control Panel

Make sure the next screen is on Classic View (you can see icons not categories)

Double click on the Java icon
- In the Java Control Panel choose delete files from the Temporary Internet Files section
- From the Delete Temporary files window ensure all three boxes are ticked
- Click OK
- Click OK again
- Close your browser
- Open the browser
- Login to WebLearn
